Life from Mile High

Well Hello There!
Smell that crisp mountain air? Well we certainly are, after a long all and lots of patience we finally made it! It wasn't was as easy as we thought it was going to be but after our last move to Las Vegas this was easy!

We made it out of Vegas with no problems and hit the beautiful Utah mountains in no time. Before hitting the high peaks we made a stop at Cove Fort near Richfield, UT. It used to be an old outpost for Mormons and other guests traveling along the way. It was highly interesting and expertly restored. Best of all it was free! If you're in that neck of the woods I recommend you check it out.

By the time we reached Richfield (Which was where we ran into problems last time) we were golden! A bite to eat and on to some of God's most beautiful country in Utah. It was until about 7pm and in the middle of no where we hit a snag...the truck started shaking violently. Scared to death I pulled over and Matt woke up from his nap. I thought it might be brakes as we were going down incredibly steep hills, Matt thought it might be the transmission may be overheating. After letting it cool every time we tried to put the truck in gear it made a loud clanging sound! So we called roadside assistance and 6 hours later we finally got a tow truck to take us to Grand Junction. (125 or so miles away).

Finally at 3 am we settled in for the night, Dee Dee even got her own bed which she loved! They next morning the truck company told us they couldn't find anyone to provide us service because it was Easter Sunday. Distraught we were sure what to do, a few prayers and phone calls with my brother we braved turning the truck and driving it around the parking lot. To our surprise no issues! We had a quick "traditional" Easter dinner at Buffalo Wild Wings and hit the road.

Due to our previous night we decided to unhook our car and drive the flattest route possible, which in Colorado is never very flat. Slowly but surely we trekked our way through the mountains up tight curves and down even steeper grades we finally made it Denver! Of course the move wasn't without casualty, we did lose all seven of our fish, but we had 3 troopers that almost made it all the way.

From there it was on to finding an apartment, after a 5 days of fabulous Motel 6 living and fast food every night we found our Home Sweet Home! It's a small one bedroom and needless to say our large two bedroom fits into the space, but not very well...so we've been working on downsizing. You never know how much you have until you have to get rid of it. Slowly but surely Mt. Move has been widdled down and now there's only a  few boxes left. Have no fear! We kept the popcorn maker...

But of course moving wasn't our only priority so was employment. Matt got a job with the City of Boulder with their Open Parks and Mountain Spaces division, where he's been busy building fences, doing plant restoration, and very little weed killing. He is LOVING it! I hit the pavement hard and have had a few interviews, ultimately for the time being I have taken a summer job with Elitch Gardens (the nation's only downtown theme park)! I'll be working with their group sales department and although its seasonal I'm excited because it gives me a job to do while settling into the city. That way when the summer's over I can find the best job ever in the best district ever! ...Right?

Although we secured the jobs and the housing, we've had to find ways to keep ourselves entertained...for the most part this means lots of photos of Dee Dee doing things we find silly (because we're those kind of people) but that you probably won't. And exploring our surroundings, and in Colorado there is lots to explore. We hit up the local IKEA on Friday and for anyone who had been to an IKEA you know you're lost in that store for days... And Sunday we got to check out the beautiful Golden Gate Canyon State Park complete with picnic! Dee even enjoyed the hike and exploring the creek.

Needless to say we are settling in well and looking forward to the future!

Love,
Matt & Tawn
